Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty recorded sharp gains, rising over 1 per cent, driven by strong performances in IT stocks, HDFC Bank, and renewed foreign fund inflows, despite mixed global cues and elevated crude oil prices.
The Sensex on Friday gained 71 points to close at 4,889. The Nifty moved up 26 points to end at 1,521.
Bharti Airtel was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying over 7.20 per cent, followed by Tata Steel 4.99 per cent, IndusInd Bank 3.49 per cent, Axis Bank 3.26 per cent and HDFC 2.57 per cent.
Among the 30 Sensex companies, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, UltraTech Cement, Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, Axis Bank, NTPC and Bajaj Finance were the biggest gainers. Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra and JSW Steel were among the laggards.
Bharti Airtel was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying over 4 per cent, followed by Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Titan, Maruti and Bajaj Finance. NSE Nifty surged 225.85 points to its record closing of 16,931.05.
Other gainers included Nestle India, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance, NTPC, L&T, Axis Bank and Bajaj Auto. On the other hand, TCS, ONGC, Infosys, HDFC and SBI were among the laggards. NSE Nifty surged 121.65 points or 1.03 per cent to 11,889.40.

Investors' wealth on Friday tumbled by over Rs 4.65 lakh crore as markets suffered a heavy selloff following weak global trends and continued selling by foreign institutional investors. The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex plunged 889.40 points or 1.54 per cent to close at 57,011.74. During the day, it tumbled 950.16 points to 56,950.98. The market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies declined by Rs 465,570.82 crore to Rs 2,59,37,277.66 crore amid weak sentiments.
ONGC and Infosys see erosion in their valuations
The broad-based NSE Nifty rose 52.80 points, or 0.50 per cent, to end at 10,530.70
Markets surged in late trades to end near their three-month highs, amid strong global cues, led by gains in ITC and short covering in bank shares.
Out of the seven companies, Coal India Ltd and SBI were the top gainers in an overall strong stock market. ONGC, ITC and Infosys were the losers for the week ended April 11.
The 30-share Sensex ended 50 points lower at 28,112 and the 50-share Nifty declined 12 points to close at 8,531.
ITC, TCS and HDFC Bank emerged as the biggest gainers during the period.
Markets ended lower amid volatile trade with Sun Pharma leading the decline.

The Sensex ended at a fresh record closing high of 28,889 while Nifty ended at a fresh record closing high of 8,730.
Auto stocks led the rally with Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp and Maruti Suzuki leading the gains.
